Our Technology (OHGI Solution)

At Atom AP Sdn Bhd, we harness the power of advanced carbonisation technology to tackle the global plastic waste crisis. Our patented OHGI Solution is designed to significantly reduce plastic volume and convert it into useful, eco-friendly products.

How OHGI Technology Works

Our process strategically targets the crisis of non-recyclable plastic waste overwhelming landfills by diverting and repurposing it through advanced carbonisation technology. Here’s how the OHGI solution works step-by-step

1
Collection and Preparation
We begin by collecting non-recyclable plastics that are typically destined for landfills, including plastics that have already been disposed of and those deemed unfit for conventional recycling methods. This includes a wide range of polymers that do not easily degrade and are challenging to process.
2
Pre-processing
Once collected, the plastic waste undergoes sorting and pre-treatment. This stage involves cleaning the plastics to remove any contaminants and then shredding them into smaller pieces to ensure uniform carbonisation.
3
High-Efficiency Carbonisation
The prepared waste is then fed into our carbonisation units. Here, the plastic is heated in a low-oxygen environment, which prevents it from burning. Instead, it breaks down into two primary products: a carbon-rich char and synthetic gases. This process not only minimizes the volume of the waste significantly but also transforms it into valuable by-products.
4
Post-processing of By-products
The carbon-rich char can be used as a soil amendment, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers, or as a raw material in the production of construction materials. Meanwhile, the synthetic gases are captured and can be used to generate energy or synthesized into other commercial products.
5
Integration into Circular Economy
By converting waste into versatile and valuable by- products, our technology reinforces the principles of a circular economy. We are committed to reducing landfill reliance, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and providing sustainable alternatives for industry and agriculture.

Benefits of OHGI Technology

Transforming Waste Management in Malaysia with OHGI Technology

Environmental Impact

OHGI technology dramatically reduces the amount of non recyclable plastic waste entering Malaysian landfills, directly tackling the country’s critical waste management issues.

By converting these plastics into carbon-rich char and synthetic gases, our solution significantly curtails the methane emissions that would otherwise result from their decomposition. This is crucial, as methane is a potent greenhouse gas, contributing heavily to global warming.

With over 900 tonnes of plastic waste ending up in Malaysian landfills daily, our technology aims to reduce this figure substantially, thereby decreasing Malaysia’s methane emissions and its overall carbon footprint.

Efficiency

Our system processes large volumes of waste with a high conversion rate, which is essential in a country where daily waste generation per capita is notably high.

The technology ensures that maximum output is achieved with minimal energy use, making it a scalable solution for rapidly urbanizing regions across Malaysia.

OHGI technology can process several tonnes of plastic waste per day, transforming it into useful by products, which aligns with the Malaysian government’s goal to achieve a 40% recycling rate by 2025.

Sustainability

By converting waste into valuable by-products like activated carbon and synthetic fuels, OHGI technology fosters a circular economy. These products have various applications, including improving soil health and providing alternative energy sources, which are crucial for sustainable development in Malaysia.

The activated carbon produced can be used for water filtration and air purification, addressing some of the environmental challenges faced by Malaysia, such as water pollution and air quality issues.

Applications of the Technology

The innovative outputs of our OHGI technology—carbon-rich char and synthetic gases—offer versatile applications across multiple sectors. These applications not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also promote economic benefits by transforming waste into valuable resources. Here’s how different industries can utilize these products.

Agricultural Enhancement

The carbon-rich char produced through our technology can be used as a soil amendment, known as biochar. Biochar improves soil fertility byenhancing nutrient retention, reducing acidity, and increasing organic matter. This is particularly beneficial for Malaysia’s palm oil plantations and agricultural sectors, which are always in need of sustainable ways to improve yield and soil health.

Green Energy Production

Synthetic gases generated during the carbonisation process can be harnessed to produce green energy. This energy can power homes, factories, and even feed into the national grid, supporting Malaysia’s goals for renewable energy sources under its National Energy Policy.

Manufacturing Materials

Carbon from OHGI can be utilized in the manufacturing of low-carbon building materials such as carbon-infused concrete, which has a lower environmental footprint than traditional materials. This application is critical as Malaysia continues to expand its infrastructure while aiming to reduce carbon emissions in line with its commitment to the Paris Agreement.

Water and Air Purification

Activated carbon is a well-known purifier for its high surface area and adsorption capacity. It is used in water treatment facilities to remove contaminants and in air purifiers to clean indoor air, which is crucial for urban areas in Malaysia struggling with pollution.

Waste Management and Reduction

By converting landfill-bound plastics into usable products, our technology directly contributes to waste reduction. This is essential for rapidly urbanizing regions in Malaysia where waste management infrastructure is under pressure.

Environmental Benefits of OHGI

Atom AP Sdn Bhd’s OHGI technology plays a crucial role in advancing environmental preservation by turning a critical environmental problem—plastic waste—into innovative solutions. Here’s how our technology is making a difference

Waste Minimization

The OHGI process significantly reduces the volume of plastic waste. By transforming these plastics into carbon-rich char and synthetic gases, we effectively divert large quantities of waste from landfills. This reduction is vital in Malaysia, where landfill space is rapidly diminishing and the environmental consequences of overfilled landfills are becoming increasingly severe.

Methane Emission Reduction

Plastic waste in landfills is a significant source of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. Our technology prevents the decomposition of plastic waste in landfills, thereby cutting down methane emissions. This directly supports Malaysia's commitments under the Paris Agreement to reduce  reenhouse gas emissions.

Resource Recovery and Circular Economy

By converting waste into useful products like biochar and synthetic gases, OHGI technology promotes the principles of a circular economy. These products are repurposed in various industries, reducing the demand for virgin materials and decreasing the overall ecological footprint. For instance, biochar can enhance soil fertility and sequester carbon, while synthetic gases can be used as a clean energy source.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation

The energy required for the OHGI process is significantly lower compared to the energy used in traditional waste processing methods like incineration. Moreover, the energy produced from synthetic gases can be utilized to power the process itself or provided back to the grid, exemplifying a self- sustaining model that conserves resources.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

OHGI technology contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15). By implementing this technology, Atom AP Sdn Bhd is actively participating in global efforts to achieve a more sustainable future.
